Serbian Orthodox Church of Holy Ascension

Serbian Orthodox Church of Holy Ascension in Subotica belongs to Bačka Eparchy and has a status of cultural monument. The Church was built on the territory of down city most likely between 1723 and 1726. Philanthropists have been constantly giving money for reconstruction of the church and by the end of the 18th century it was widen. Total reconstruction took place in 1910 when a new Tower was built and a new iconostasis made in Vienna was installed. The original style of the Church was not maintained after the big reconstruction. Nowadays the Church represents neo-baroque style with discreet decorative elements of secession lined on the facade that were normally used for religious buildings at that time.
