Belgrade Zoo
Belgrade Zoo or Good Hope Garden is situated in one of the most attractive locations of the center of the city – in Kalemegdan Park. Zoo was founded in 1836 and is one of the oldest zoological gardens in Europe. During World War the Second zoo shared city’s destiny and during the bombing of 1941 and 1944 almost all the animals were killed. Since foundation till now Zoo has changed its borders several times and nowadays it covers 7 hectares and hosts more than 2000 of animals of more than 200 species of local and exotic animals.
A walk in the zoo is a kind of a trip over continents, starting from African giraffes and elephants, to Asian tigers or polar bears. Belgrade zoo has all modern infrastructure, drinking and decorative fountains, wooden animals sculpture Gallery by Vuk Bojović, Baby-zoo with animal’s young. For the 60th anniversary the Zoo received a monument of its famous pet monkey Sami, the first chimpanzee in Good Hope Garden.
