Niška spa
Niška spa is located on slopes of Koritnik Mount, part of Suva mountains at the altitude of 248 m only 10 km away from the city of Niš. Niška spa is supposed to be oldest one in Serbia as already Romans used its waters for healing. Constantine the Great, one of the greatest Roman Emperors who spread Christianity at Balkans and founded Constantinople, enjoyed the water of Niška spa at the beginning of the 4th century. Water via leaden pipes reached emperor’s summer residency in Mediana, located between Niška spa and emperor’s birthplace Naissus, modern Niš.
Afterwards many Serbian kings and nobility starting from Stefan Nemanja, founder of Nemanjići dynasty, and the last descendants of Obrenović and Karađorđević dynasties used Niška spa for resting.
Warm healing water of Niška spa with average temperature of +37°C in naturally rich with radon gases; combination of water and other methods of therapy helps people suffering from cardiovascular diseases, rheumatism, high blood pressure, and is effective for rehabilitation after traumas and operations on spine and joints.
Medical and touristic objects of the spa are located in a park that covers 5 hectares. Sport infrastructure is also developed here, whilst the vicinity of historical sights such as Mediana, Skull Tower, Niš Fortress from the 18th century, Čegar, Memorial museum of the concentration camp „Red cross“ make stay in the Niška spa even more interesting.
