Festival Guča
Guča Trumpet Festival is a traditional musical festival that is held annually in the small town of Guča in Western Serbia region called Dragačevo. Guča is located on the bottom of Ovčar Mountain, famous as Serbian Holy Mount, very popular tourist destination. Every August hundred thousands of visitors from Serbia and foreign countries come to this small town with 2 thousands of locals. When Prince Miloš Obrenović in 1831 ordered to form first military trumpet orchestra, this instrument became essential part of Serbian culture and tradition. Sound of trumpet follows every Serbian event – birthday, baptizing, wedding and Serbian Slava, saint patron’s day.
First trumpet festival was held on the 16th of October 1961 at the yard of St. Gabriel’s Church in the center of Guča, and only musicians from Dragačevo participated. Nowadays Dragačevo Festival is the biggest gathering of trumpets in the world. For more than 50 years Guča has been popular thanks to great music and excellent fun and food. Here you may try prominent “wedding cabbage”. Festival lasts for a week and takes care of other traditional values, like traditional songs, dances and costume of Dragačevo and Western Serbia.
