Memorial of Constantine
An old legend says that in far 312, just a year before the declaration of the Edict of Milan that made Christianity permitted in the Roman Empire, Emperor Constantine saw Chi-Rho christogram in sky just before winning the Battle of the Milvian Bridge, the sign was accompanied with the following words: „In hoc signo vinces“ or literally “In this sign you will win”.
The memorial in Niš was inspired by this legend: it is placed by the local bridge that symbolizes Constantine passing the Milvian Bridge. The obelisk is aiming to sky and a observer looks at serene sky through cut out christogram.
