ITINERARY

Day 1: Welcome to Belgrade

Upon arrival in Belgrade, Serbia’s vibrant capital, your driver will welcome you and escort you to your hotel. Enjoy the sights of New Belgrade, featuring Socialist architecture and modern business centres, during the ride from Nikola Tesla Airport. After hotel check-in, use your free time to rest and prepare for the journey ahead.

In the evening, we recommend a leisurely stroll through one of Belgrade’s oldest quarters to Skadarlija, the city’s bohemian heart. This charming 19th-century cobbled street is lined with ”kafanas” where you can enjoy delicious local specialties and traditional music.

Day 2: Vibrant Capital of Serbia

Your journey through Belgrade begins with a panoramic tour highlighting its architectural diversity and history, from bold Brutalism to the emerging Belgrade Waterfront, a symbol of modern transformation. As we cross Branko’s Bridge, you’ll get a glimpse of New Belgrade’s distinctive skyline, featuring landmarks like the Palace of Serbia (SIV), Belgrade Arena, and the modern Ada Bridge. Continuing, we pass through the Dedinje district, home to the Residence of Miloš the Great, embassies, grand villas, and the Museum of Yugoslavia, reflecting the country’s complex history.

Our route then takes us past the monument of Stefan Nemanja, a key figure in Serbian history, and through Slavija Square before arriving at one of Belgrade’s most iconic landmarks – the Temple of Saint Sava. We’ll stop for a visit and devote time to this impressive sanctuary, the symbol of the city and the fourth-largest Orthodox temple in the world, adorned with stunning mosaics.

From there, we continue along King Alexander Boulevard, passing notable sites such as the National Assembly, before reaching the city’s bustling pedestrian zone, where the walking part of our tour starts.

Strolling through Belgrade’s vibrant streets, we arrive at Republic Square and continue down Knez Mihailova Street, the city’s lively cultural and shopping centre.

Cruise past iconic landmarks, absorb the vibrant riverside ambience and feel the soothing evening breeze as you take in the stunning views of Belgradeskyline, bridges, and historic landmarks.

Day 3: Treasures of Vojvodina

Belgrade – Fruška Gora NP – Sremski Karlovci – Novi Sad – Belgrade

Today, you will explore the most interesting sights of Vojvodina, a province in northern Serbia. You will be driven through picturesque scenery and Serbia’s famous wine region towards Fruška Gora NP, the ”Serbian Holy Land”, which is home to 17 functioning Serbian Orthodox monasteries. You will visit the well-preserved Krušedol Monastery, hear captivating stories from the monks, and immerse yourself in the monastery’s rich history.

The tour continues on to town of Sremski Karlovci. A real gem of Serbian culture and spirituality, Sremski Karlovci feels like a ”museum town” with its Baroque centre, the Patriarchal Court, the Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Nicholas and the first Serbian secondary school (gymnasium). With its rich winemaking tradition and historical significance, the city stands as one of the focal points for Serbian wine culture.

Your next stop will be Novi Sad, the vibrant capital of Vojvodina and 2021 European Capital of Culture. This multicultural gem is renowned for hosting EXIT, Southeast Europe’s largest music festival. Wander through its lively pedestrian zone, where historic landmarks like the City Hall and the old city centre blend with cultural sites, including the former home of Albert Einstein’s wife Mileva and the city’s historic synagogue. Explore the impressive Petrovaradin Fortress, often called “Danube’s Gibraltar”, where you can enjoy stunning views of the Danube River and the cityscape, perfect for capturing unforgettable moments.

After a short drive, you will return back to Belgrade and enjoy the rest of your evening.

Day 4: Danube’s Ancient Waters

Belgrade – Golubac Fortress – Iron Gate – Kladovo

This day is dedicated to uncovering the wonders of Eastern Serbia, a region where history, nature, and adventure intertwine. Depart early from Belgrade, heading to the legendary Golubac Fortress, a two-hour drive along the scenic Danube River. Built at the gateway to the Iron Gates Gorge, this imposing fortress stands where the Danube transforms from its widest expanse into a dramatic passage through the Carpathian Mountains. The strategic location made Golubac a key stronghold in centuries past.

Our journey then takes us to Lepenski Vir, a place that takes you back over 8,000 years to one of Europe’s earliest civilisations. This archaeological site features intriguing sculptures of river gods and the remnants of a mysterious culture that flourished along the Danube long before recorded history. Imagine the lives of these ancient people as you walk through their reconstructed village.

Next, we’ll head to Tekija for a thrilling private speedboat ride through the breathtaking Iron Gates Gorge.

Day 5: Where Roman Roads Meet Natural Wonders

Kladovo – Vratna Gates – Gamzigrad – Vrnjačka Spa

Bid farewell to Kladovo, check-out and depart towards Vratna Gates, a series of natural tourist attractions. This stunning trio of natural stone bridges are located on the Miroč mountain in eastern Serbia, near the town of Bor. As they make an extraordinary formation, they are a blend of underground and surface karst processes, showcasing the dramatic beauty of the region’s geology. Two of these arches are situated near the medieval Vratna Monastery, while the third is hidden deeper within the picturesque Vratna River Gorge. The most famous of the three is the Big Arch, which spans 43 meters in length, standing 26 meters high and 23 meters wide. These arches, with their grandeur and unique karst morphology, offer a captivating glimpse into the natural wonders of Serbia, making them a must-see for nature enthusiasts and adventurers alike.

Your next stop will be the UNESCO-listed archaeological site of Felix Romuliana, also known as Gamzigrad, built during the late 3rd and early 4th centuries AD as a grand imperial palace complex by the Roman Emperor Galerius. Felix Romuliana served as a lavish residence and mausoleum for the emperor and his family. The site covers an extensive area and includes various structures such as temples, palaces, baths, and fortifications.

The tour continues to Vrnjačka Banja, one of the oldest spas in Serbia and a proud owner of the “Queen of the Spas” nickname. Famous for its mineral springs and its benefits, for centuries Banja has been a favourite holiday destination for the Royal families and the aristocracy. Today, it is a lovely place where families love coming back for its abundant greenery and numerous parks, traditional food and historical and cultural sites, such as Roman Spring, Fons Romanus, Belimarković Castle (which used to belong to a Serbian regent), the Bridge of Love etc. After the sightseeing, you will check in at the hotel. Use your free time well and take a leisurely walk along the beautiful Lipovačka River promenade, covered with linden canopies and surrounded by flower parks and restaurants.

Day 6: In the Footsteps of Medieval Serbia

Vrnjačka Spa – Sopoćani and Studenica Monasteries – Vrnjačka Spa

Spend the day visiting Serbia’s most treasured monasteries, both UNESCO-protected. The first stop is Sopoćani Monastery, famed for its colourful wall frescoes from the 13th and 14th Centuries. This Monastery, one of the most valued religious sights of the Middle Ages, was built Raska architectural style with noticeable Romanesque influence, which is why it was included in the “Route of culture Transromanica” – a route that binds the European heritage of the Romanesque period. Afterwards, head on to the magnificent Studenica Monastery, the largest and richest Orthodox monastery in Serbia, with its impressive collection of Byzantine-style frescoes. Studenica Monastery is one of the most valuable, biggest, and most important monasteries of the Serbian Orthodox Church. This is the second Serbian monument that had the honour of being included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage in 1986. It is located in the “Valley of the Kings” between the rivers Ibar and Raska, where the Serbian medieval state started. Studenica was built in 1196 as the endowment of Great Prince Stefan Nemanja, founder of the independent Serbian state and ancestor of the dynasty that would rule in Serbia for two full centuries. Return to Vrnjačka Banja.

Day 7: Nostalgia Rails and Mountain Tales

Vrnjačka Spa – Šargan Eight & Wooden-Town – Zlatibor

After check-out from Vrnjačka Spa, drive towards Zlatibor, while enjoying the scenic landscape. The tour will take you to Tara National Park, where you will truly experience the charm of the mountains and reflect on their beauty while riding the authentic, retro ”Nostalgia” train along the narrow gauge heritage railway, Šargan Eight. This railway, named for its figure-eight shape, takes you from the base of Šargan Mountain and transports you back in time as you enjoy stunning scenery, numerous tunnels, and viaducts. Originally part of the railway from Belgrade to Sarajevo in the early 20th century, the Šargan Eight offers a unique glimpse into the past.

After enjoying the breathtaking nature, you will arrive at the ethno village Drvengrad (Wooden-Town), built by the renowned film director Emir Kusturica. The village, constructed from natural materials, primarily wood, features the Mećavnik Hotel, houses, galleries, shops, a cinema, and a church. Since 2008, Drvengrad has hosted the annual Küstendorf Film and Music Festival and has welcomed celebrities such as Johnny Depp, Monica Bellucci, Jim Jarmusch, and many others.

This day will conclude with a short drive to the famous Zlatibor Mountain, home of the first royal resort in Serbia, and check-in to the mountain hotel. Here you can enjoy a relaxing walk around the quaint town centre of this picturesque air spa. In the evening, you will discover the essence of Serbian cuisine at one of Zlatibor Mountain’s finest traditional kafanas. Start with rich ajvar and creamy kajmak, paired with artisan-cured meats. Enjoy hearty traditional pies or proja, the beloved Serbian cornbread. For the main course, indulge in succulent veal or freshly caught fish, expertly prepared to bring out the best local flavours. Join us for this unforgettable dining experience and try the rich, irresistible flavours of Serbian cuisine against the stunning backdrop of Zlatibor’s natural beauty.

Day 8: Vivid Western Serbia

Zlatibor – Ethno Village Sirogojno – Stopića Cave – Gold Gondola – Zlatibor 

Start your day with a visit to Sirogojno, a village famous for its ethnological museum and ”Sirogojno sweaters” made of raw wool. You will see the Ethnological exposition of the open-air museum known as the Old Village.

The journey continues towards Stopića Cave, a stunning river cave near the village of Rožanstvo, shaped by the Trnavski stream. With three geological horizons and a length of 1,691 metres, the cave boasts an impressive entrance – 35 metres wide and 18 metres high. The cave’s most notable features include “siga” tubs, and unique limestone formations where water collects and cascades, creating mesmerizing waterfalls. The highlight is the “Spring of Life” waterfall, a 9,44 metre drop that fills the cave with a roaring sound, offering an awe-inspiring natural spectacle. This cave e is a true marvel of Serbian speleology, first explored by Jovan Cvijić in the early 20th century.

Return to Zlatibor for a ride on the Gold Gondola, a 10-minute cable car ride to the top of Tornik Mountain, for beautiful views of the surrounding rolling hills. This is the longest gondola in the world, stretching over 9 kilometres, making it a must-visit attraction for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.

Day 9: ''Serbian Tuscany'' Delights

Zlatibor – Oplenac Royal Complex – Šumadija Region – Belgrade 

Today, you will leave Zlatibor Mountain after check-out and travel to Oplenac via the Ovčar-Kablar Gorge. You will visit St. George’s Church also known as Oplenac, the mausoleum of the Serbian and Yugoslav royal house of Karađorđević. The church is situated on the very top of the hill. This monumental building with authentic beauty has a unique structure and extraordinary ornaments. You will be dazzled by the interior. The white marble floors and the lavish colourful glass mosaic on the walls will leave you amazed. In the museum, you will be able to admire the art masterpieces and the personal belongings of the royal family.

Meeting the soul of this region will be complete after a visit to the nearby wine cellar. Delve into a royal wine journey through the enchanting Šumadija region, often called the ”Serbian Tuscany”. At one of Serbia’s leading century-old wineries, where natural beauty meets urban elegance, you will taste three sorts of wine crafted using traditional recipes. Learn about the Royal Karađorđević dynasty, who led Serbia through pivotal moments in its history, founded the modern Serbian state, and greatly influenced its winemaking traditions. Are airport transfers included in this tour?

Airport arrival transfer is included in this tour. However, as most of our clients decide to extend their trip within their own organisation, transfer to the airport at the end of the tour is not included in the overall price. If you would like us to organise a departure transfer on their behalf, you are welcome to book the departure transfer during the checkout process, or simply contact us.

Can you assist with pre or post tour accommodation?

Yes, we will easily arrange additional overnights upon your request. If you are looking to book only one additional night before, or after the tour, you are welcome to choose the option during the checkout process. If you are arriving few days before the tour departure or you would like to extend your stay after the tour end, get in touch with our agents, and they will help you with booking your pre or post tour accommodation at the same hotel as the one that is already booked for your stay.

What is cancellation policy?

CANCELLATION BY THE GUEST

In case of cancellation by the guest, refund policy will be applied by the terms stated in the list below. The guest is obligated to send official written cancellation notice. Given refund policy will be applied from the time of receiving the notification in writing. The shown refund amount represents a percentage of the total tour price.

For cancellation up to 60 days before departure – 100% refund.
For cancellation from 59 days till 46 days before departure – 90% refund.
For cancellation from 45 days till 31 days before departure – 80% refund.
For cancellation from 30 days till 16 days before departure – 70% refund.
For cancellation from 15 days till 8 days before departure – 50% refund.
For cancellation from 7 days till the day of departure – 0% refund.

Beside all standard reasons, cancellation policy will also apply if tour participant cancel the tour with a reason that includes medical ground, visa issues, jury service etc.

Is there a minimum age requirement to join your tours?

To ensure the best experience for all guests, our tours are suitable for participants aged 12 and older. For families with younger children, we rather offer some of our excellent private family tours, tailored to provide an experience that kids genuinely enjoy.
