Meet the guide at Nikola Pašić’s square at 10 AM, and start a walking tour that offers an authentic introduction, perfect for first-time visitors looking to immerse themselves in Serbia’s rich culture.
Your adventure begins at the iconic National Assembly, a striking early 20th-century building that has stood witness to Serbia’s dynamic history. Just across from it, the grand Old and New Palaces await—once the residences of the powerful Obrenović and Karađorđević royal families, and now home to the President and the City Parliament. These majestic landmarks hold fascinating stories of Serbia’s past, with secrets and events that have shaped the nation.
Our journey continues to Terazije Square, a central gathering place in Belgrade since the late 19th century. Here, you’ll hear fascinating stories about Hotel Moskva, which has hosted renowned scientists, artists, state officials, and even two camels that accompanied a distinguished guest from Africa.
Next, we arrive at the heart of the city, Republic Square, a lively and historic hub, surrounded by the iconic National Theatre and National Museum, each a testament to Belgrade’s rich cultural heritage. At the center, the majestic Prince Mihailo Monument stands proudly, commemorating the influential ruler who played a pivotal role in Serbia’s history. This vibrant square has long been a focal point for both locals and visitors, offering a glimpse into the city’s past and present.
Stroll along the lively Knez Mihailova Street, lined with charming cafés and boutique shops, as you observe the locals sipping coffee, chatting, and embracing their beloved tradition of leisurely promenades.
As we walk along the lively Knez Mihailova Street, we’ll arrive at the Belgrade Cathedral, where some of Serbia’s most influential historical figures are laid to rest and admire the stunning Patriarchate Building and the Museum of the Serbian Orthodox Church, where religion and history intertwine deeply with national identity. Directly across from the church is the city’s oldest bar, intriguingly named “Question Mark -?”, along with the Mansion of Princess Ljubica, the former home of Serbia’s first lady.
The tour concludes at the Belgrade Fortress, the city’s most significant cultural and historical landmark. The towering walls of this fortification stand proudly over the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, offering a glimpse into the ancient history of Belgrade, while also witnessing the love stories of today. The walk begins amidst the lush greenery of Kalemegdan Park and finishes at the farthest edge of the city, where history and nature seamlessly come together.
Say goodbye to the guide at Kalemegdan park, from where you can easily continue a deeper exploration of the Belgrade fortress on your own, or return to the main pedestrian zone and heart of the city – Knez Mihailova street.
