Tower Kula Nebojša

Kula Nebojša Tower is the best preserved and the only left medieval building in Belgrade Fortress. Built in 1460 the Tower relates to early artillery constructions. It was built in order to defend the Fortress from Turks and centuries after it was used as a dungeon for prisoners. The most famous prisoner of the Tower was Greek revolutionary poet Rigas Feraios who was killed in Kula in 1798. A monument to him was unveiled near Kalemegdan park at the street named after him. The Tower nowadays is a memorial museum with fragments of its history and exposition devoted to the First Serbian Uprising that was made with the help of Greece and Serbia. A part of the Tower is devoted to Rigas Feraios and other prisoners.
