Sava

Sava

Sava’s river-head in located in Slovenia, it flows via Zagreb and major part of Sava is used as border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia and in Belgrade Sava joins the ranks of Danube.  Sava’s length is 940 km; this is one of the biggest rivers in Europe. This water-way is an important corridor for transportation of goods and passengers to Danube. Sava in Serbia is a peaceful and flat-land river, surrounded by vast forests. Its banks host Natural resorts, swamps, floodplains and oxbows; the most famous are Special Natural reserve Obedska Bara and Zasavica.

Sava is exceptionally important for Belgrade. This is the most visited and in some aspect the most beautiful parts of Sava near its outfall in Danube. As the river is calm here it allows building raft-houses, restaurants and weekend-houses which makes Sava banks the most favorite place for rest and relaxation. Boat-trip via Sava to Danube’s flow is a great chance to see Belgrade from another perspective. The famous lake Ada Ciganlija was created when a small dam on Sava had been constructed and it gets water from Sava. This is the most visited recreation place in Belgrade especially in summer and is often called „Belgrade sea“.
