Knez Mihailova Street

Knez (Prince) Mihailova Street – is the main pedestrian and shopping zone, the most dynamic street in Belgrade. From early morning to late evening life at Knez Mihailova Street doesn’t slow down. Every step of this 800 m street hosts cafes and restaurants, shops of world-famous brands, street performers and outdoor art expositions. This old street was called in 1870 after Prince Mihailo Obrenović, ruler that was assassinated two years before.

The walking zone whose heart is Knez Mihailova Street spreads all around the wide central are. A walk from Slavija Square via King Milan Street to Knez Mihailova is a possibility to see numerous splendid buildings of different architectural styles starting from the 19th century to modern days, which show the real history and development of Belgrade. From Knez Mihailova Street you can walk to the Republic Square and then to Skadarlija and authentic quart Dorćol. If walk in opposite direction you may enjoy in crowded cafes of Obilićev Venac quart. Anyway if you follow the most popular way Knez Mihailova will lead you to the Belgrade Fortress, Kalemegdan Park and the Statue of the Victor located on a beautiful observation point.
